A state-funded television channel similar to the international 'BBC' is planned to be created on Ukrainian television. This was reported by the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko.
The head of state has already taken the first step in this direction - on Tuesday, April 7, he signed a law on the introduction of state-funded television broadcasting, known as public broadcasting.

The document on the creation of the new broadcasting format was signed at the 'Mystetskyi Arsenal' in the capital of Ukraine. During the presentation of public broadcasting held there, the logo of the 'First National Channel' was transformed into 'UA Pershyi'.
In addition to the president, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and many figures from the television industry from Ukraine and abroad were present at the presentation.
'Friends, public television will be in Ukraine!' - with these words, the president addressed the audience before signing the document.
The head of state emphasized that he, like many citizens of our country, is also influenced by information resources, in particular television, radio, and the Internet.
At the same time, it is currently extremely difficult for a rational person to trust what is presented to them from television or radio airwaves. Often news segments suffer from the bias of the channel or its leadership, but people have no choice but to continue living in such an informational environment. That is why, the president noted, projects such as public broadcasting are created.
The Ukrainian president called public broadcasting 'a child born from two revolutions - the Orange Maidan and the Maidan of Dignity'. Poroshenko is confident that Ukraine has been awaiting such a project throughout its years of independence.
The head of state also believes that the leadership of public broadcasting should consist not of officials, but of journalists and representatives of television and radio companies. Only in this way can professionals be held accountable for the quality of the project. On the other hand, the responsibility for the materials released will also rest on their shoulders.
It should be noted that the Ukrainian parliament voted for the law on the creation of public broadcasting on March 19, 2015. It provides for the formation of a National Public Television and Radio Company, which will not be dependent on the president and the government. Its basis, as planned, will be national and regional bodies of television and radio companies.
