The Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine, Denys Uliutin, spoke at the plenary session of the UN General Assembly at a high level regarding the progress in the implementation of the Global Action Plan to combat human trafficking.
In his speech, he noted that the war in Ukraine with the Russian Federation has caused the spread of human trafficking and a change in its forms. This has led to new types of exploitation, an increase in trafficking of both children and adults, as well as expanded opportunities for criminals through digital platforms and artificial intelligence.
Steps taken by Ukraine
The Minister also shared information about measures that Ukraine has already taken in this direction. In particular, this includes updating the National Program for Combating Human Trafficking until 2030, introducing liability for legal entities, creating the position of an independent National Rapporteur, and implementing counteraction measures in the field of social services.
“Global solutions are needed to combat human trafficking, which has scaled up due to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine”
Ukraine has also reaffirmed its commitment to the UN Global Action Plan and readiness to enhance international cooperation for better protection and reintegration of victims.
Uliutin addressed the UN General Assembly regarding the issue of human trafficking, pointing out new challenges and the steps Ukraine is taking to combat this phenomenon.
