Czech President's Unannounced Ukraine Trip
On January 15, Czech President Petr Pavel arrived in Ukraine for an unannounced working visit, which included a stop in the Lviv region. This visit underscores the continued European support for Ukraine as the war approaches its third year. There, he met with Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, as well as Nataliia Kalmykova, the Minister for Veterans Affairs, and Oleksandr Mishchenko, a Deputy Foreign Minister, to discuss the consequences of a recent enemy attack and security cooperation.
Central Discussion Points
Maksym Kozytskyi identified the aftermath of the hostile attack as the central topic of the meeting. A vital component of the support discussed is the military aid the Czech Republic has provided, totaling nearly $837 million. This substantial assistance includes the procurement of over 3.7 million large-caliber artillery shells, with 1.3 million of those shells already delivered in 2025.
This visit by the Czech president highlights the critical nature of the partnership between the Czech Republic and Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. Czech military aid, featuring significant deliveries of artillery ammunition, is a crucial element of support for Ukraine's defense of its territorial integrity. The meeting with Ukrainian officials also demonstrates the Czech Republic's readiness to actively collaborate on security matters and to help Ukraine overcome the consequences of aggression.
