Ukraine Prepares to Help Families in Frontline Regions Heat Their Homes
Ukraine, in collaboration with international organizations, is launching a targeted cash assistance program for families living in conflict zones who may have heating issues this coming winter.
Ukraine, together with international organizations, is launching a mechanism for targeted one-time cash assistance for families in frontline regions, which will allow households to be provided with firewood or coal during the heating season of 2025/2026.
Under this program, individuals residing in households heated with solid fuel in the frontline regions of Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Luhansk, Donetsk, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Chernihiv may apply.
The assistance will amount to 19,400 UAH per household, and any family member over the age of 18 can submit an application.
The application review mechanism stipulates that local authorities must decide on the allocation of assistance within three business days. For those who receive a positive decision, the funds will be transferred directly to their bank accounts or sent through international organizations, such as the UNHCR Representation.
Priority for assistance will be given to individuals already receiving housing subsidies or fuel allowances, single pensioners, single parents, large families, and other vulnerable population groups.
It is important to note that receiving this assistance does not affect other social payments and is not taxable. Additionally, if a family is evacuated during the conflict, they will still be eligible for assistance.
