Optimizing Border Crossing During the Holidays
Before the Christmas and New Year holidays, the load on checkpoints increases, which can lead to a significant increase in waiting times in queues. In order to optimize border crossing, the government contact center has announced that certain categories of citizens can undergo processing on a priority basis if they have the necessary supporting documents.
Categories of Citizens Entitled to Priority Passage
The categories entitled to priority passage include:
- Diplomats and official or service personnel who must have a diplomatic, official, or service passport recognized by Ukraine.
- Employees of international organizations, provided that their authority is confirmed by documents.
- Seriously ill individuals and persons with disabilities can pass without queuing if they have medical documents.
- Parents with infants under one year old also have the right to priority passage through the pedestrian line if they present the child's birth certificate.
It is worth noting that for parents with children older than one year, no automatic preference is established. Exceptional situations in which border guards may grant priority will be considered on-site. Additionally, a new EES system has been implemented at the border with Romania, which may also affect the border crossing process.
These measures, implemented by the government, aim to reduce crowding at checkpoints during the holidays, which is important in the context of increased traffic. With the approaching New Year holidays, an increase in the number of travelers can be expected, which may complicate the border crossing process. The introduction of the EES system at the border with Romania also reflects a desire to modernize border procedures and increase their efficiency.
