Legislative changes in Russia
Vladimir Putin signed a law that provides for the update of the emblem of the Russian Federation and declares the decisions of foreign courts in criminal cases, which were made without the participation of the Russian Federation, invalid. The description of the new state emblem is specified in the federal constitutional law. In the new version of the emblem, small crowns, a large crown, and a scepter will be crowned with straight equidistant four-pointed crosses.
In addition, a document has been adopted establishing that the rulings of international judicial bodies, whose competence is not based on international treaties or UN Security Council resolutions, will not be executed. This law will apply, in particular, to the verdicts of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Thus, the new amendments will significantly impact international legal practice in Russia.
Impact of changes on international relations
These changes in legislation may indicate Russia's intention to strengthen its legal autonomy in the international arena, especially in the context of rising tensions in relations with Western countries. The update of the emblem may also be perceived as an attempt to emphasize the national identity of the country amid geopolitical challenges, which in turn could influence domestic politics and public opinion.
