Missile Strike Hits Home of Singer Varash
A Russian missile attack on the night of February 22 destroyed the family home of singer Volodymyr Zakolodnyany, known professionally as Varash. His sister and her children were injured in the assault and are currently receiving hospital treatment. All those wounded were hospitalized following the incident. This attack is part of the wider conflict that has devastated civilian infrastructure across Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
The strike was part of a massive bombardment that left 17 people wounded in the Kyiv region, including four children. One person was killed in the Fastiv district. Beyond the singer's home, over 100 residences were damaged, including private houses and apartments. The attack also destroyed the home of former TV presenter Volodymyr Ostapchuk's ex-wife and notary Khrystyna Horniak.
Singer Varash's Emotional Response
Varash shared his anguish over the event, stating: 'Our house is completely destroyed. The place that held memories, children's laughter, and family evenings has been turned into ruins.'
He stressed that the most important thing is that everyone is alive, and doctors continue to treat the injured: 'Right now, doctors are stitching wounds, removing shrapnel, and treating burns. Ahead lie surgeries, recovery, and a long path of rehabilitation.'
The singer is particularly worried about his nephew, who was trapped under rubble and suffered a fractured pubic bone. 'The little one is holding on! Almost all the fragments have been removed from his face. Everyone else is more or less okay, everyone has been stitched up. I thank everyone for their support,' Varash added.
This tragedy represents another page in the chronicle of suffering caused by the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The incident illustrates the scale of destruction continuing in Ukraine due to the war, particularly from missile strikes. Damaged homes and injured civilians have become part of the daily reality for many Ukrainians, underscoring the urgent need for international support and humanitarian aid for victims. As the case of Varash demonstrates, even public figures are not spared the horrors of war, enduring profound personal loss and trauma.
