Water Rescue Incidents
Two incidents of rescuing people in danger on the water occurred in the Bucha district and Kyiv. In the Bucha district, between the villages of Mykulychi and Nemyshayeve, on March 19 at 08:29, a message was received by the emergency rescue service 101 that two people needed assistance from a pond. A team from the 36th State Fire and Rescue Unit of Irpin promptly responded to the call. One of the victims had already been pulled ashore before the rescuers arrived, while the second man was evacuated from the water by the State Emergency Service fighters using special equipment. Both men were hospitalized. Five personnel and one piece of special equipment were involved in the operation.
Incident in Kyiv
In Kyiv, at the Obolon bay, on Pryrichna Street, a similar incident occurred when a woman and a girl found themselves on an ice floe that drifted them 200 meters from the shore. The child ran out onto the ice, and the mother tried to bring her back. The ice cover was unstable at that time due to the spring warming, complicating the situation. The State Emergency Service rescuers quickly arrived at the call and used an airboat for the rescue. The mother and child were successfully brought to dry land, and they did not require medical assistance.
These incidents underscore the importance of quick reactions from rescue services in situations related to danger on the water, especially during spring warming when the ice cover becomes unstable. They also remind of the necessity to adhere to safety rules on water bodies to avoid similar incidents in the future. The development of technologies, such as the use of airboats, can significantly improve the effectiveness of rescue operations in challenging conditions.
These recent rescues highlight the urgent need for awareness regarding safety on ice during the warming season. For further insights into similar rescue efforts, including a case involving two children stranded on an ice floe in Kyiv, you can read more about the operation here.
