Kyiv Rescue: Emergency Crews Save Two Children Stranded on Ice Floe
Emergency on the Ice in Kyiv
According to Главком: Emergency services in Kyiv successfully rescued two children who were stranded on a broken sheet of ice on March 9th. The incident, which began at 7:37 PM, occurred roughly 20 meters from the shoreline. Rescuers utilized an inflatable boat and diving equipment to reach the children and bring them to safety.
Following the rescue, the children were handed over to medical personnel and were fortunately found to have no injuries. This event underscores the critical importance of observing water safety rules, especially during periods of warming when ice becomes dangerously thin. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) has urged all children and adults to avoid venturing onto frozen rivers, lakes, and ponds during thaws.
A Stark Reminder of the Dangers
This rescue serves as a sobering reminder of a tragic incident in February, when a UAZ vehicle carrying two men fell through the ice on a bypass canal near the village of Lebedivka in the Vyshhorod district. The body of one man was recovered immediately. Rescue services continue to plead with the public to exercise caution and not put themselves at risk.
This case and its consequences highlight the need for an active informational campaign on water safety, especially in the spring period when the likelihood of accidents increases. - SES
The SES continues to emphasize the importance of following safety rules to prevent similar situations in the future. In recent years, the number of water-related incidents has risen, causing significant concern among rescue services across the country.
