Record Number of Lawsuits by Ukrainian Banks in 2025
In 2025, Ukrainian banks filed a record number of lawsuits against debtors, amounting to 100,434, which is almost 1.5 times more than in the same period last year. This significant increase indicates a rise in financial problems among borrowers and an intensification of banks' efforts to retrieve their funds.
Leaders in the Number of Lawsuits
Since 2019, the total number of filed banking lawsuits has reached 511,865. Among the leaders in the number of lawsuits is PrivatBank, which has filed 191,353 lawsuits since 2019. Universal Bank and A-Bank also filed a significant number of lawsuits, with 115,702 and 60,421 respectively. In 2025, the three largest banks that filed the most lawsuits are:
- Universal Bank/Mono - 28,213
- A-Bank - 22,221
- PrivatBank - 20,278
Additionally, PUMB filed 9,225 lawsuits, while Sense Bank filed 6,831. It is noted that tascombank exhibited a 3.5-fold increase in the number of lawsuits, while PrivatBank increased by 1.8 times. Kredobank saw a 1.7-fold increase, and A-Bank and Sense Bank both increased by 1.6 times. Meanwhile, Yunex Bank reduced its court filings by 4 times, while Cred Agricole and Ukrgasbank reduced theirs by 2 times. Radabank and Bank Alliance also made it into the list of the most active 'litigating' banks. These data indicate significant changes in the financial market of Ukraine.
The growth in the number of lawsuits reflects the difficulties faced by borrowers amidst economic challenges, which in turn may indicate instability in the financial environment in Ukraine. The activation of banks in legal matters may be a strategy to improve their financial indicators, but it also underscores the need to reform lending and support borrowers to avoid further escalation of financial problems in society.
