Phil Knight, 87-year-old co-founder of Nike, has recently poured out money – a whopping $2 billion. Together with his wife Penny, they decided to donate this sum to the Knight Cancer Institute. The money will go towards cancer research, finding new treatment methods, improving conditions for patients, and increasing salaries for medical staff.

Donation for the cancer center in Oregon

This center operates at the Oregon Health and Science University, the philanthropist's home state. Representatives of the institute called this amount the largest single donation in the history of higher education in the United States.

«This gift is an unprecedented investment in millions of lives burdened by cancer, especially patients and their families here in Oregon», stated the president of the cancer center, Sherif Elnahal.

This generous donation will not only provide patients with access to essential resources but will also facilitate psychological support, genetic counseling, symptom management, and other types of assistance for those battling cancer.

The record for donations was previously held by Michael Bloomberg, who donated $1.8 billion to Johns Hopkins University in 2018.

Phil Knight's significant donation to the cancer center in Oregon will become an important step in the fight against cancer, improve treatment conditions for patients, and serve as a true investment in the health of millions of people.
