It is known that Russian leader Vladimir Putin plans to visit Hungary, which has caused excitement in the European Union.
According to information from Reuters, a possible meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Budapest—a member country of the EU and NATO—has caused some outrage among Ukrainian allies.
'The potential meeting, which could take place in two weeks in Hungary, will be a symbolic step that may complicate the West's position in the Russia-Ukraine conflict,' the material notes.
A representative of the government of one European country remarked that this situation is 'uncomfortable' for both the EU and NATO.
'The threat of 'Tomahawks' is increasing, and nonetheless, Putin is actively seeking such a meeting. If Trump thinks he can achieve a certain result, he will definitely try to make it happen,' the agency's interlocutor emphasized.
Potential consequences of the meeting
Geopolitical analyst Botond Feledi believes that this meeting could bring significant political benefits to the Kremlin and 'kill several birds with one stone.'
'Putin will be able to discuss Russia's involvement in the conflict in eastern Ukraine on EU territory without the participation of European leaders. This will be a double blow to Europe, symbolically much stronger than a meeting in other countries,' the expert noted.
Feledi also emphasized that, similar to the previous summit between Trump and Putin in Alaska, this meeting may take place without the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which will further aggravate relations between Kyiv and Budapest.
It is worth noting that the head of the Russian Federation is wanted under an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court and is on the EU sanctions lists. Furthermore, the European Union has banned Russian aircraft, including the plane of the President of the Russian Federation, from flying in its airspace.
Hungary has already stated that it has no intention of complying with the International Criminal Court's warrant for Putin's arrest.
