The German concern Rheinmetall plans to expand its artillery shell production in Ukraine. The company's CEO Armin Papperger announced intentions to double the production capacity of the future factory for the manufacture of 155mm artillery shells in Ukraine. According to new plans, the plant will be able to produce up to 300 thousand shells annually - twice as much as initially planned.
This expansion of production capacity fits into Ukraine's strategy to reduce dependence on Western arms supplies and develop its own defense industrial base. However, the project faces bureaucratic obstacles and financial problems. Papperger notes that Ukraine has limited financial resources to implement the increase in production.
'The localization of 155mm shell production is important for Ukraine, as these munitions are necessary for the artillery systems provided to the Ukrainian army by Western partners,' emphasized Papperger.
The launch of artillery shell production in Ukraine will reduce the delivery times of munitions to the front lines and lessen risks associated with logistics and supply from abroad.
Ukraine plans to develop artillery shell production with German support, which will increase its own military-industrial potential and ensure necessary munitions for the army.
