The labor market in Ukraine has lost up to 95% of vacancies in key sectors: what happened

В Україні спостерігається величезне скорочення можливостей для працевлаштування у важливих галузях: які наслідки?

Changes in the Ukrainian Labor Market

The labor market in Ukraine is undergoing significant changes, particularly a notable reduction in vacancies in key sectors such as services, tourism, and others. A study by 'OLX Work', covering the period from 2021 to 2025, revealed that in these industries, the demand for labor has decreased by up to 95%.

The leaders of vacancy declines demonstrate impressive figures:

  • In cleaning and domestic staff, the number of vacancies has decreased by 95%, from 3,797 in 2021 to only 198 in 2025.
  • The hotel and restaurant business and tourism sector have also suffered significant losses, where the number of offers has decreased by 91%, from 3,265 to 301.
  • Taxi drivers experienced a decline of 90%, from 2,772 vacancies to 275.

Vacancy reductions are also observed in other key sectors:

  • The number of offers for HORECA managers decreased by 89%.
  • In retail, vacancies for supervisors decreased by 75%.
  • In food production, the number of vacancies for confectioners decreased by 69%.
  • Accountants experienced a reduction of 62% — from 1,083 to 415 vacancies.
  • In logistics, the number of vacancies for truck drivers decreased by 54%, and for sales managers — by 48%.
  • Vacancies for welders decreased by 47%, and in business administration, the number of vacancies for secretaries decreased by 41%.

Conclusions

Thus, the labor market in Ukraine has undergone significant redistribution of labor demand, influenced by both internal and external factors. These changes threaten the stability in many sectors of the economy.

The significant reduction of vacancies in key sectors of the labor market in Ukraine may indicate negative trends in the economy, particularly a decrease in consumer demand and investment in these industries. This, in turn, may lead to an increase in unemployment and social instability, requiring adequate measures from the state to support the most vulnerable groups of the population.
