Deploying ANYmal at a Cement Plant

The four-legged robot ANYmal, created by ANYbotics, is now a key asset at the Vigier Ciment cement facility, where it carries out autonomous inspections. Since it began operations in early 2025, the robot has completed over 33,000 checks, uncovering critical defects that prevented roughly $630,000 in potential losses. In 16 months of continuous use, the machine has experienced zero breakdowns.

Technical Milestones and Defect Detection

ANYmal inspects more than 450 predetermined points across six levels and three plant sites. The entire industrial complex contains over 1,000 machines. Thanks to the robot’s deployment, four major findings have transformed maintenance strategies. One of the most critical discoveries was a crack in the crusher foundation.

  • Thermal monitoring detected a bearing temperature spike to 140 °C, allowing crews to schedule an eight-hour repair instead of facing an emergency failure.
  • Gas sensing identified ammonia exposure levels at unloading platforms.
  • Acoustic imaging revealed air leaks in filtration systems located 50 meters high.

The acoustic imaging system can pinpoint such leaks from up to 50 meters away.
