Russia attacked Kyiv and Chernihiv: what is known about the consequences of the shelling

On January 5, 2023, Russia launched attacks on Ukraine using missiles and drones, particularly targeting Kyiv and Chernihiv. As a result of the shelling in Kyiv, one person was killed, as reported by the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachенко. He urged residents to stay safe as the attack continued.

On the night of January 5, Russian forces also attacked Chernihiv, using ballistic weapons and drones. The head of the Chernihiv City Military Administration, Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, reported fires in garage cooperatives and private homes due to this attack.

U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the situation, stating that American intelligence had found no evidence to support allegations against Russia regarding Ukraine's attack on President Putin's residence. He emphasized that he does not believe these allegations, noting:

“We don’t believe this happened, now that we have been able to verify it.” - Donald Trump

Furthermore, Trump confirmed Washington's intention to exert control over Venezuela following the capture of Nicolás Maduro. In response, the acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, offered to cooperate with the U.S. government.

Situation and Reaction

The situation remains tense, and new details continue to emerge. Officials are urging residents to maintain safety and be cautious under the threat conditions.

The attacks on Kyiv and Chernihiv mark another phase of escalation in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia that has lasted for several years. The response of the international community to these events is important, particularly statements from the U.S. president that may influence further diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict. Tension in the region persists, and residents of the cities affected by the shelling continue to live under the threat of new attacks.
