Ukraine Intercepts Most of 447 Russian Missiles and Drones in Major Overnight Assault

Українська ППО ефективно зупинила значну частину ворожих ракет та дронів під час нічної атаки.

Massive Combined Assault Targets Ukraine

In the early hours of February 7, Russia launched a major combined attack against critical infrastructure targets across Ukraine. The assault involved a total of 447 detected aerial weapons, including:

  • 2 Zircon hypersonic missiles
  • 21 Kh-101 cruise missiles
  • 16 Kalibr cruise missiles
  • 408 attack drones

Energy facilities in western and central regions, specifically in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, and Vinnytsia oblasts, were the primary targets of the attack. This wave is part of a sustained Russian campaign to degrade Ukraine's power grid, particularly during the harsh winter months.

Interception Results and Damage

Ukrainian air defense forces achieved a high interception rate, shooting down 24 missiles—14 Kh-101s and 10 Kalibrs—along with 382 drones. Despite this success, 13 missile and 21 drone strikes hit their targets across 19 locations. Damage was reported in Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv oblasts, with strikes also affecting the regions of Kyiv and Kharkiv. In Rivne, a multi-story residential building was damaged, while in Ladyzhyn, Vinnytsia Oblast, drones struck the administrative building of an agricultural college.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the critical need for continued international support for the country's defense, stating: 'Moscow must be deprived of the ability to pressure Ukraine with cold. This requires missiles for Patriots, NASAMS, and other systems. Every delivery helps us get through this winter.'

This large-scale attack on Ukrainian infrastructure underscores the escalating military intensity and the ongoing nature of the conflict. The increasing focus on energy targets highlights a Russian strategy aimed at weakening Ukrainian resilience during winter. The importance of international support and the supply of modern air defense systems has become crucial for ensuring Ukraine's security and energy stability.
