Ukraine Hit by Major Russian Assault: Drones and Rockets Target Odesa, Kyiv, and Sumy Region

Нападіння з боку Росії: дрони та ракети завдають ударів по Одесі, Києву та Сумській області.

Russia Launches Widespread Attacks on Ukraine

On February 8, Russia carried out a massive assault on Ukraine, deploying hundreds of drones and missiles. The strikes impacted several regions, including Odesa, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and Sumy. In Odesa, drone attacks triggered explosions and ignited a fire. Serhiy Lysak, head of the Odesa regional military administration, urged residents to stay in shelters, noting the intense noise in the city. These attacks are part of a broader Russian campaign that has intensified during the winter months, targeting energy and civilian infrastructure.

Infrastructure Damage from the Strikes

A separate attack on Odesa on February 4 caused destruction to civilian and industrial infrastructure in two districts. A two-story residential building sustained severe damage: its roof was destroyed, ceilings in apartments were damaged, windows in neighboring buildings were shattered, and cars were riddled with shrapnel. A school and a kindergarten were also hit. The strike reportedly hit an administrative building at an industrial facility, where a fire also broke out.

In the night leading to February 3, Russian forces attacked Ukraine using an estimated 350-500 drones and up to 65 missiles of various types. Vinnytsia region came under heavy fire, with strikes recorded on critical infrastructure objects, leading to power outages in 50 settlements. In Kyiv, three people were injured during the night attack, with several districts targeted. In the Sumy region, four people were wounded as a result of Russian shelling. The Russian military also struck DTEK thermal power plants, causing significant damage to equipment.

These attacks are part of Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine, resulting in significant infrastructure destruction and human casualties.

The mass bombardments threaten not only military targets but also civilian residents, creating panic and uncertainty among the population. Given the increasing intensity of the attacks, Ukrainian authorities are calling for enhanced defensive measures and preparedness for potential new threats.
