Russia has legalized looting in the occupied territories: how the occupiers seize the housing of Ukrainians

Окупанти отримали правовий дозвіл на розкрадання майна українців: як відбувається захоплення житла в анексиованих регіонах.

The Russian authorities have legalized the seizure of property from Ukrainians in the occupied territories. According to information from the Center for Countering Disinformation, a Russian government commission approved the initiative to recognize state property as 'ownerless property' for objects whose owners cannot be identified or for which documents are unavailable. These objects are transferred for use by the occupying administrations or 'new residents' — military personnel, police, officials, and teachers that Russia brings into the seized areas.

The policy of appropriating property in the occupied territories is aimed at displacing Ukrainians and settling these areas with citizens from Russia. This is noted in the Center for Countering Disinformation.

Furthermore, the Russian authorities are conducting a process of Russification in the occupied territories of Ukraine, starting from kindergarten. Children are being taught the Russian language and Ukrainian words are gradually being replaced with Russian ones to destroy Ukrainian identity. The establishment of a youth Stakhanovite movement is also being considered, which envisages forced labor for students at enterprises and participation in pseudo-competitions.

In turn, these actions could lead to a serious deterioration of the situation in the occupied territories, experts warn.
