Andriy Sybiha’s Address at the UN Security Council Meeting
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha revealed at the United Nations Security Council that Russia initially aimed to seize Kyiv within just three days. He highlighted that 14 out of the 15 Security Council members back a ceasefire, but Russia remains the sole country obstructing it. Sybiha emphasized that Russia is vetoing not only calls for a truce but also any hope for peace.
In a powerful statement, he declared,
“Enough with empty words. Enough broken promises. Enough diplomatic charades. This war must end now — not later.”
Sybiha also drew a stark historical parallel, pointing out that
“the world rightly condemns the Nazi siege of Leningrad,”but today, Russia is employing comparable tactics against the Ukrainian people.

“preventing the worst outcome depends on everyone in this chamber — and far beyond.”Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also spoke at the session, yet his views remain at odds with the majority of the Security Council.
Sybiha challenged the council, asking, “How did it happen that four years later, Moscow is aflame?” highlighting Russia’s failure to achieve its initial objectives. He concluded by reminding the assembly, “This is not the UN Council of Impunity, although Russia would prefer it to be,” underscoring the Security Council’s critical role in maintaining global peace and stability.
