Russia deploys 'Oreshnik' ballistic missiles in Belarus: goal is to pressure the EU and NATO

Росія розгортає балістичні ракети «Орешник» у Білорусі: стратегія тиску на ЄС і НАТО.

Deployment of 'Oreshnik' missiles in Belarus

Russia is deploying medium-range ballistic missiles 'Oreshnik' in Belarus with the aim of pressuring the European Union and NATO, as well as protecting its facilities from potential attacks by Ukraine. The head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Oleg Ivashchenko, reported this in a comment to 'Ukrinform'.

Construction of military facilities

According to the received information, the construction of military facilities has already begun on the territory of Belarus, which include a surveillance and communication system. The deployment of 'Oreshnik' missiles is planned to be completed by the end of 2025. The missiles will be located 120-140 km from the border with Ukraine and 200 km from Lithuania.

Oleg Ivashchenko noted that the deployment of 'Oreshnik' on the territory of Belarus is a means of pressure primarily on the EU and NATO, rather than on Ukraine.

These actions by Russia indicate a continuation of military activity in the region, which may lead to increased tensions between European countries and the NATO alliance. The deployment of new missile systems in Belarus also reflects the Kremlin's strategy to strengthen military presence on the western borders and enhance its ability to respond to potential threats. This could have serious consequences for security in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as impact the political decisions of countries in the region.
