Over 1,600 Strikes by Russia Hit Ukraine, Civilian Casualties Reported Across Nine Regions

Більше ніж 1,600 обстрілів Росії уражають Україну, жертви серед цивільного населення зафіксовані у дев'яти регіонах.

Russia Intensifies Assaults on Ukraine with Extensive Use of Drones and Missiles

This week, Russian forces launched a relentless wave of attacks on Ukraine, deploying guided bombs, various missile systems including ballistic missiles, and nearly 2,300 attack drones. These strikes caused civilian casualties in multiple regions, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky providing updates on the scope and impact of the bombardments.

In total, around 1,600 guided bombs, 48 missiles, and approximately 2,300 drones were fired at Ukrainian targets over the week. The Dnipro region suffered four fatalities and 22 wounded civilians, including an 11-year-old girl, due to Russian shelling. In Vinnytsia, an attack drone struck a residential high-rise, injuring six people. Meanwhile, in Kharkiv, Russian forces first targeted a construction hypermarket before launching a follow-up strike on emergency responders at the scene, resulting in injuries to rescue personnel.

Strategic Attacks Target Critical Infrastructure

The strikes extended beyond residential areas to key infrastructure sites. President Zelensky reported damage to thermal power plants, electrical substations, coal mines, grain storage facilities, shopping centers, and postal terminals across nine oblasts. Notably, on October 24, a Russian strike hit a farm in the Konotop district of Sumy region, killing a female farm worker and wounding four others. Animal casualties were also recorded in the attack.

“Tragically, these brutal attacks result in daily civilian deaths and injuries. Four people lost their lives in the Dnipro region shelling last night, with 22 injured, including an 11-year-old girl. A Russian drone hit a high-rise in Vinnytsia, wounding six. In Kharkiv, following an assault on a construction hypermarket, a callous secondary strike targeted emergency services arriving on site, injuring rescuers.”

Volodymyr Zelensky

President Zelensky also emphasized that recent nighttime strikes damaged power plants, substations, coal mines, grain storage facilities, commercial centers, and postal terminals across nine regions, causing significant destruction. He condemned these attacks as Russia’s response to diplomatic efforts and international isolation. Zelensky stressed the critical need to maintain support for Ukraine’s defenders alongside ongoing negotiations. He called for unlocking deliveries of Patriot missile interceptors and bolstering Ukrainian combat aviation to counter the continued rocket drone threat, noting, “Every defensive aid package, especially before winter, helps save lives.”

Ukraine remains under severe strain as Russian attacks persistently inflict heavy damage on civilians and essential infrastructure. President Zelensky highlights the urgent requirement for sustained international backing to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, which are vital in resisting aggression. This situation underscores the importance of global solidarity and swift action to protect civilians and preserve critical facilities during this ongoing conflict.

The recent escalation of attacks has not only impacted civilian areas but also targeted essential energy infrastructure. In a related report, President Zelensky detailed nearly 190 drone and missile strikes on Kyiv’s energy facilities overnight, resulting in casualties and further damage.
