Missile Attacks Target Ukrainian Cities
On the day Vladimir Putin celebrated his birthday, the Russian military launched a missile strike against a residential building in Pryluky, located in the Chernihiv region. This attack resulted in the deaths of five people and left 26 others wounded, including five children. Rescue workers are actively searching beneath the rubble as some residents may still be trapped inside the collapsed building.
In addition to Pryluky, Russian forces targeted infrastructure across Kyiv and 12 other Ukrainian regions. In Dnipro, five apartment buildings were damaged, while four multi-story buildings were hit in Kremenchuk. These assaults caused two fatalities and eight injuries in these cities. A drone strike also damaged a high-rise building in Zaporizhzhia. Kyiv experienced two deaths due to Russian attacks, and the city of Oleksandriya recorded two more fatalities.
Scale of the Assault and Government Response
Overall, approximately 70 missiles were launched by Russia, including ballistic missiles and "Shahed" drones. Ukraine’s air defense forces managed to intercept only a portion of these projectiles.
"The Russians aimed to inflict severe and symbolic damage. This was one of the most vicious attacks: nearly 70 missiles, including a large number of ballistic ones and Shaheds. Unfortunately, we were able to shoot down only some of them. Russian ballistic missiles remain our greatest challenge."
Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The Ukrainian president emphasized that acquiring air defense systems, particularly Patriot missile batteries, is a critical priority. Such systems are essential to effectively protect Ukrainian airspace and save civilian lives. As of 10:40 AM, the confirmed toll in Pryluky stands at five dead and 20 injured.
These recent attacks highlight the ongoing security crisis in Ukraine, where Russian forces continue to target civilian infrastructure, aiming to disrupt the country’s energy networks and critical facilities.
The situation remains highly volatile, with repeated strikes on residential areas and key infrastructure underscoring the persistent danger to civilians. The heavy reliance on ballistic missiles and drones by Russian forces demonstrates the urgent need to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. Ukraine’s efforts to obtain advanced systems like the Patriot missiles are vital for safeguarding its population and strategic assets.
