Situation with the production of the MS-21 aircraft
Russia has again postponed the start of serial production of the MS-21 aircraft, the development of which has been ongoing since 2009. Initially, the launch of serial production was planned for 2016, but the deadlines have constantly changed. The next postponements occurred in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2024. Currently, the situation remains unchanged; it is likely that serial production of the aircraft will not begin until the end of 2026.
Problems in the aviation industry
According to the plans of the Russian aviation industry, it was planned to produce 127 aircraft from 2023 to 2025, but as of today, civilian companies have only received 13 aircraft. In 2026, the delivery of three Il-114 aircraft is also expected. In addition, the launch of the new carrier rocket 'Soyuz-5' has been postponed until the end of 2025.
Thus, despite long-term efforts to develop the MS-21 aircraft, its serial production remains in question, which indicates certain difficulties in the Russian aviation sector.
Problems with the launch of serial production of the MS-21 aircraft reflect broader challenges in the Russian aviation industry, including issues with the supply of components and technological independence. This situation may have implications for Russia's competitiveness in the international aviation market, especially under sanctions and global economic difficulties. The postponement of deadlines may also affect the plans for the development of new projects, such as the 'Soyuz-5' rocket, highlighting the overall state of the country's aviation infrastructure.
