Shelling in Kramatorsk

Russian military forces shelled the city of Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region yesterday evening. The attack ignited fires at an industrial facility and a local market. Firefighters successfully extinguished a blaze in a cargo truck and put out fires in the damaged structures of a warehouse building.

While firefighters were working, Russian forces launched two subsequent strikes directly on the response site. These follow-up attacks caused containers in the market area to catch fire. In total, firefighters extinguished fires covering an area of 130 square meters. Crucially, no rescue workers were injured in these deliberate attacks. This tactic of striking emergency responders, known as a 'double-tap,' is a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

Impact on Civilian Infrastructure

This incident underscores the ongoing military actions in the region and their severe impact on civilian infrastructure. The shelling of residential and commercial areas risks creating a deeper humanitarian crisis by further degrading living conditions for local residents.

The situation in Kramatorsk remains tense, highlighting the continued need for attention to civilian safety and the recovery of affected areas.

The recent attacks in Kramatorsk highlight the escalating violence in the region, with a previous airstrike injuring civilians and damaging homes. This pattern of aggression raises concerns about the safety of the local population and the urgent need for humanitarian assistance as the situation deteriorates.
