Despite Announced Ceasefire, Russian Forces Launch 51 Attacks

Незважаючи на оголошене припинення вогню, російські війська здійснили 51 напад.

Frontline Update as of May 9

Even with a ceasefire declared from May 8 to May 11, Russian troops have continued active combat operations. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 4:00 PM on May 9, a total of 51 assaults by occupying forces had been recorded since the start of the day, highlighting the intense situation at the front.

Occupational forces carried out shelling in areas near settlements in the Sumy region, including:

  • Rohizne
  • Volfyne
  • Korenka
  • Atynske
  • Ulanove
  • Kucherivka

In the North-Slobozhansk and Kursk directions, the enemy shelled Ukrainian positions ten times, with two additional assault actions recorded. On the South-Slobozhansk front, Russian forces attempted to improve their tactical positions seven times near:

  • Prylipky
  • Izbystske
  • Starytsia
  • Ternova
  • Petro-Ivanivka
  • Synelnykove

As of 4:00 PM, two of these attempts were still ongoing.

On the Pokrovsk axis, the enemy launched 17 attacks, seeking to push Ukrainian forces back toward:

  • Dorozhnie
  • Rodynske
  • Novooleksandrivka

Two attacks in this sector were also still in progress. In the Huliaipole direction, 13 assaults occurred, targeting areas including:

  • Nove Zaporizhzhia
  • Rybne
  • Tsvitkove

On the Kostiantynivka front, Russian forces conducted seven attacks aimed at:

  • Kostiantynivka
  • Pleshchiivka

In the Lyman direction, four attacks were recorded, while the Kramatorsk axis saw one assault toward Tykhonivka.

Meanwhile, no active offensive operations were reported in the Kupiansk, Sloviansk, Oleksandrivka, Orikhiv, or Prydniprovsk directions. It is important to note that Russia declared a unilateral ceasefire from midnight on May 8 through May 10. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed a three-day truce from May 9 to May 11, as well as a prisoner exchange in a 1,000-for-1,000 format.

Outlook

The frontline situation remains tense, with hostilities persisting despite the declared ceasefire. This indicates that neither side is prepared to make concessions, and further actions could significantly shape the course of military operations. Ongoing monitoring and readiness for potential shifts in strategy by both Ukrainian and Russian armed forces remain critical in the near term.

As the situation continues to escalate with ongoing assaults, it's crucial to understand the broader context of Russia's military objectives. Recent reports indicate that the Russian military was given directives to secure Ukrainian territories by the end of April. This strategic goal may explain the heightened aggression observed even during the announced ceasefire.
