Albania’s Ambassador to Ukraine Targeted as Russian Strike Hits His Residence in Kyiv

Посольство Албанії в Україні зазнало нападу внаслідок ракетного обстрілу, що вразив резиденцію посла в Києві.

Massive Russian Assault on Ukraine – May 24, 2026

During the night of May 24, 2026, Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine, damaging the residential building where Albania’s ambassador to Ukraine lives. The assault, which involved both missiles and drones, also struck the offices of Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In response, Albania summoned the Russian ambassador for an explanation and issued a strong condemnation.

The attack shattered windows at the Cabinet of Ministers building and damaged the Foreign Ministry headquarters on Mykhailivska Square—marking the first time in over 80 years that the ministry’s building has been hit. The combined strike targeted Kyiv’s government district and its historic core, intensifying concerns over the safety of diplomatic and civilian sites.

International Reaction

Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, expressed outrage over the incident:

“This time, the residential complex where Albania’s ambassador to Ukraine lives was struck, putting his life in serious danger. This is unacceptable!” – Ferit Hoxha

He added:

“Russia is not winning; it is only killing, destroying, and causing widespread devastation and suffering.” – Ferit Hoxha

The minister urged Russia to immediately halt its attacks and return to negotiations, reiterating: “We repeat our call for Russia to immediately stop these attacks, end the war against Ukraine, fully comply with international law, and return to the negotiating table.”

Beyond Albania, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Anita Orbán also condemned Russia’s strike on Kyiv, highlighting broad international disapproval of actions that endanger state security and diplomatic missions. This attack is part of the ongoing military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, now in its third year, and underscores rising regional tensions. The involvement of diplomatic residences in the combat zone signals a dangerous escalation, raising alarms about the protection of diplomats and civilians alike. The swift reactions from Albania and Hungary reflect widespread international solidarity with Ukraine during this difficult period.

The recent attack on the residence of Albania’s ambassador is part of a larger pattern of violence in Kyiv. In a related incident, a significant assault on the city resulted in numerous injuries and extensive damage, involving nearly 600 drones and 90 missiles.
