A cargo ship flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda was targeted in a recent Russian assault in the Odessa region, resulting in the death of the Ukrainian captain. The remaining crew members were successfully evacuated, and the fire aboard the vessel has been brought under control.
The attack also involved two strikes on warehouse facilities storing medicines, household goods, and food supplies. Firefighting efforts at these storage sites lasted several hours, highlighting the extensive damage caused.
Drone Assault Details
On the night of September 23, Russian forces launched a large-scale drone offensive against Ukraine, deploying 161 unmanned aerial vehicles of various types, including Shahed, Gerber, and rocket-propelled drones. Ukrainian air defense units intercepted or neutralized 122 of these drones, with confirmed impacts recorded at 18 different locations.
“The captain of the ship, a Ukrainian citizen, was killed. The rest of the crew was evacuated. The fire is now extinguished,” reported Oleg Kiper, head of the Odessa Regional Military Administration.
