Accidental Gunshot Kills Russian Hockey Player in Front of His Grandfather

Нещасний випадок забирає життя російського хокеїста на очах у дідуся.

Tragedy Strikes the Sports World

On June 11, Russian hockey player Yegor Yadykin died in a tragic accident in Salavat, Bashkortostan. The athlete suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head when a rifle accidentally discharged while his grandfather was watching. According to reports, Yadykin reached for something in the back seat of a car during a hunting trip and inadvertently pulled the trigger, causing the deadly incident. Death was instantaneous.

Yadykin's grandfather, who witnessed the tragedy, later took his own life. He sent a voice message to relatives before returning to the garage, where his body was found next to his grandson's. The athlete's father, Ivan Yadykin, confirmed the details of the event.

Yegor Yadykin's Hockey Career

Yegor Yadykin was a product of the Avangard Omsk system, a two-time Russian junior champion, and played in the Junior Hockey League for the Omsk Hawks and in the All-Russian Hockey League for Omsk Wings. In 2025, he joined Norilsk. During the last VHL season, Yadykin played 46 games, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

Separately, reports have emerged about the death of Russian occupier Georgy Kamalov, a former football coach. Kamalov, 46, played for Era Vladivostok from 2003 to 2011 but ended his career due to injury and moved into coaching. He began coaching within the Era system and in recent years worked with the football club Anri, which he led to the level of the Russian Cup.

“He was up to his ears in debt. That's why he signed the contract. He paid it off after receiving the payout. But then he had to go to war. And die. At the age of 46. Such is the gloom.” - Dmitry Nizovets

These tragic events highlight not only personal losses but also broader issues that can arise in sports and society at large. The Yadykin case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with firearms, even when they are not directly tied to athletic pursuits. Meanwhile, Kamalov's death underscores the risks faced by many athletes who, due to financial hardship, are forced to participate in conflicts, often with fatal consequences. These incidents raise serious concerns about the safety and well-being of athletes and their loved ones in difficult life circumstances.
