Blaze Engulfs Saratov Oil Refinery and Ozon’s Logistics Facility After Drone Strike
During the night of September 11, Ukrainian attack drones targeted the Russian city of Saratov, triggering significant fires at a Rosneft-owned oil refinery and a logistics center operated by the marketplace Ozon. Explosions were also reported in Engels, Samara, Volgograd, and Kaspiysk. This marks the second assault on the Saratov refinery within a few days.

- Industrial plant in Volgograd.
Volgograd also experienced a missile strike. Video footage and photographs reveal extensive fires and thick smoke rising above the refinery and logistics center. The Ozon warehouse in Saratov has temporarily halted incoming shipments and suspended deliveries within Saratov and its surrounding region. Some orders already processed will be canceled, while others will be fulfilled from neighboring distribution centers.
The Saratov oil refinery ranks among the largest in Russia, producing gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, road and roofing bitumen, vacuum gasoil, and technical sulfur. As of 2024, it processes approximately 5.8 million tons of crude oil annually, accounting for 2.2% of Russia’s total refining capacity. The refinery has faced prior drone attacks, including one in July 2024 that forced a shutdown of its primary oil processing unit, as well as the initial strike on September 8.
Ozon’s logistics center in Saratov, operational since 2024, spans over 100,000 square meters and is designed to store more than 30 million products while handling up to 900,000 orders daily. The recent attacks have drawn significant attention and are disrupting the operations of these critical facilities.
