NABU and SAPU Step Up Anti-Corruption Efforts

Between March 9 and 14, 2026, Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) reported significant progress in several criminal cases. Their work, which is crucial for Ukraine's reform agenda and international partnerships, resulted in the exposure of three criminal schemes, the submission of three indictments to court, and one conviction, demonstrating the agencies' active role in combating corruption and crime.

Among the newly uncovered schemes is one involving the embezzlement of funds from the Ukroboronprom defense conglomerate. Law enforcement also exposed a judge and an accomplice who accepted a bribe to close a case concerning drunk driving. Furthermore, three individuals were caught for the misappropriation of defense funds.

Indictments Filed and a Sentence Handed Down

In their continued fight against corruption, NABU and SAPO forwarded three indictments for trial. The first relates to a transformer procurement case, the second concerns soliciting and receiving an illegal benefit for the construction of an apartment building for military personnel in the capital, and the third involves the embezzlement of over 15 million UAH from JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.

The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) delivered a verdict against a former official of the Ministry of Defense in a bribery case related to military housing construction. The ex-official was sentenced to 4 years in prison. These developments underscore the critical importance of sustaining anti-corruption momentum in Ukraine.

The exposure of criminal schemes and the delivery of sentences signal growing activity by law enforcement in the anti-corruption fight, marking a vital step toward rebuilding public trust in state institutions.

Continued action of this kind can help improve the country's investment climate and strengthen the rule of law. It is essential that these efforts remain systematic and are supported by corresponding legislative changes.
