Al-Qadisiyah's Interest in Dani Olmo

Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadisiyah has set its sights on Barcelona's Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo. Club scouts have traveled to Spain to observe the player, though no formal offer has yet been made to Barcelona. This move is part of a broader trend of ambitious Saudi clubs targeting top European talent to elevate their league's global standing.

Dani Olmo's Career

Born in Terrassa, Dani Olmo has made 38 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 8 goals and providing 7 assists. His contract with Barcelona runs until the summer of 2030. Olmo began his senior career in the 2014/15 season with Dinamo Zagreb, where he played until January 2020. During his time in Croatia, he achieved significant success, becoming:

  • A five-time Croatian champion;
  • A three-time Croatian Cup winner;
  • A one-time Croatian Super Cup winner.

In 2020, Dani Olmo transferred to German club RB Leipzig for €34.2 million, where he won two DFB-Pokals and one DFL-Supercup. In the 2024/25 preseason, he returned to Spain, joining Barcelona for €55 million. In his debut season with Barcelona, he secured a domestic treble. On the international stage, Olmo has also been successful, winning the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League and the UEFA Euro 2024 title with the Spanish national team.

About Al-Qadisiyah

Al-Qadisiyah was founded in 1967 and is owned by the national oil company, Saudi Aramco. The club gained international recognition by winning the Asian Cup Winners' Cup in the 1993/94 season. In December of last year, the team was appointed former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers as head coach. Currently, Al-Qadisiyah holds fourth place in the Saudi Pro League, trailing the top three by just two points. Key players in their squad include:

  • Goalkeeper Koen Casteels;
  • Defender Nacho;
  • Midfielder Otávio;
  • Forward Cristian Tello.

The growing interest from Saudi clubs in European stars like Dani Olmo highlights their strategic push to attract world-class talent and reshape the global football landscape. While Olmo's long-term contract and recent success make a transfer complex, such scouting missions signal the league's serious intent to compete at the highest level, potentially influencing future transfer windows.
