Ukraine's 'Alpha' Unit Inflicts Over $1 Billion in Damage, Destroying 15 Russian Aircraft

«В результаті успішних операцій української 'Альфи' завдано значних втрат противнику, знищено кілька десятків російських літаків, що призвело до збитків у понад мільярд доларів.»

Operations of the SBU's 'Alpha' Special Forces Unit

Over the past year, Ukraine's SBU 'Alpha' special forces unit has carried out strikes on five Russian military airfields. Using long-range drones, these attacks have proven to be a highly effective tool against Russian air power, destroying 15 aircraft and causing damages exceeding $1 billion. This represents a significant strategic shift, as Ukraine increasingly targets high-value assets deep behind enemy lines.

According to the information, the 'Alpha' unit's operations have destroyed or disabled the following:

  • 11 fighter jets, including Su-30SM, Su-34, Su-27, Su-24, and MiG-31 models;
  • Three helicopters: an Mi-28, an Mi-8, and an Mi-26;
  • An An-26 transport plane;
  • Ammunition and fuel depots located on the airfield grounds.

SBU representatives noted that the enemy had grown accustomed to feeling secure in its deep rear areas. However, for the 'Alpha' special forces, distance is no longer a barrier. The result is that 15 enemy aircraft will never fly again. These actions highlight the intensification of Ukrainian efforts to degrade Russian military capabilities.

The Impact of Advanced Technology

This development underscores the growing proficiency of Ukrainian forces in leveraging modern technology, particularly drones, to achieve strategic wartime objectives. Strikes on airbases, which are critical for supporting military operations, can severely impact an adversary's ability to conduct air missions and supply its troops. Such tactics may signal an evolution in Ukraine's combat approach, which could influence the future course of the conflict by challenging Russia's operational security far from the front lines.
