Draft Evasion Scheme Dismantled in Kyiv

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has dismantled a Kyiv-based scheme for evading military mobilization, arresting a deputy head of a district state administration and an accomplice. This illegal operation involved providing services to help individuals avoid compulsory military service for a substantial fee, which ranged from $15,000 to $20,000 per person. Such corruption schemes undermine national defense efforts during a time of war.

The detained individuals have already been formally notified of suspicion under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including parts 3 and 5 of Article 27, part 2 of Article 28, and part 4 of Article 409. Those involved in this case face up to 10 years in prison. The alleged organizer of the illegal operation, a 30-year-old native of the Chernihiv region, has also been charged.

Legal Repercussions and Mobilization Evasion Issues

Additionally, a company director who participated in the scheme will be prosecuted for receiving $26,000 to remove individuals liable for military service from official search lists. This case highlights the serious problem of mobilization evasion in Ukraine and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat criminal networks.

The dismantling of this scheme signals a heightened effort by law enforcement to tackle corruption and military service evasion, a critical issue given Ukraine's ongoing defensive war against the Russian invasion.

The implementation of strict measures against those attempting to exploit the situation could significantly impact public perception and trust in state institutions.
