Ukraine's Security Service Conducts Major Operation
Over a 40-day period, drones operated by Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) targeted Russian naval support vessels and S-400 air defense positions in occupied Crimea. The operation, carried out by the elite 'Alpha' unit, focused on the Kerch area, where ships were hit at a local shipbuilding yard.
Targets Hit
Among the assets struck were:
- the cable-laying ships 'Volga' and 'Vyatka' (Project 15310),
- the cargo-passenger ferry 'Petropavlovsk,' which was 96% complete.
These vessels were being built for Russia's defense ministry and were intended to deploy the 'Harmony' underwater surveillance system, used for naval intelligence. They could also have been employed to lay non-contact mines.
Additionally, the strikes hit components of Russian air defense systems near the Kerch Strait. Specifically, the weapons and radar station of an S-400 system—responsible for covering the Kerch Strait area—were damaged.
“During the special operation, SBU drones struck the cable-laying ships 'Volga' and 'Vyatka' (Project 15310), as well as the cargo-passenger ferry 'Petropavlovsk,' which was 96% complete. The attacks caused massive fires on board,” the SBU reported.
The SBU emphasized that systematically targeting Russian military infrastructure in temporarily occupied Crimea denies the enemy the ability to use the peninsula as a logistics and military hub. 'Destroying air defense systems paves the way for new precision strikes, while disabling ships and port infrastructure undermines the occupiers' capacity to supply their forces,' the SBU added.
