Successful Attack on an Oil Refinery
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), in coordination with the Defense Forces, carried out a successful strike on the Kirishinefteorgsintez oil refinery and the Kirishi oil pumping station in Russia’s Leningrad region. The operation was executed by operatives from the Alpha unit, alongside Special Operations Forces and Unmanned Systems Forces. The drones hit three AVT units—facilities responsible for the initial refining of crude oil at the plant.
Strategic Blow to Russia’s Economy
The Kirishinefteorgsintez refinery ranks among Russia’s largest, with an annual capacity of 20–21 million tons of crude—over 6% of the country’s total refining output. The Kirishi pumping station serves as a key hub for exporting oil and petroleum products through the port of Primorsk. During the strike, a fuel storage tank at the station was also hit, triggering a fire that spread across the refinery.
Officials from Ukraine’s Security Service stated: “The deep rear is no longer a safe haven for Russia’s strategic assets. The SBU has repeatedly proven its ability to operate effectively at long distances.”
Security Service of Ukraine
This attack on strategic targets inside Russia marks a significant step in efforts to reduce the funding behind the aggressor’s military operations. Successful Ukrainian strikes could severely disrupt Russia’s oil and gas infrastructure, thereby undermining its economic strength. As the war continues, such actions underscore Ukraine’s resolve to meet challenges head-on and maintain its stance in the fight for independence.
As Ukraine intensifies its efforts to target Russia's oil infrastructure, understanding the potential impact of such operations on Moscow's revenue becomes crucial. The recent strike on the Kirishinefteorgsintez refinery exemplifies a broader strategy to undermine Russia's economic capabilities.
