Ukraine's SBU Strikes Russian Oil Giant a Second Time with Drones, Over 1,500 km Away

Українська контррозвідка завдала повторного удару по російському нафтовому гіганту, використавши безпілотники на відстані понад 1500 км.

Second Drone Attack Hits Perm Facilities

On May 7, 2026, a fresh wave of drone strikes targeted the Perm linear production dispatch station and the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez refinery in the city of Perm. These operations were carried out by the Alpha Special Operations Center of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The attacks ignited new fires at both industrial sites, which lie more than 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine's border. This marks the second time the SBU has struck these facilities using unmanned aerial vehicles.

Why These Targets Matter

The Perm dispatch station serves as a critical hub within Russia's network of main oil pipelines. Meanwhile, the adjacent Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez refinery—capable of processing roughly 13 million tons of crude oil annually—has triggered emergency safety protocols. Plant workers have begun depressurizing the system to avert further disasters. This refinery supplies fuel to both civilian sectors and the Russian military, underscoring its strategic value.

According to monitoring channels, the situation at the dispatch station has become critical following the repeated assault, though regional officials claim conditions in the industrial zone remain under control. These events highlight the growing importance of such infrastructure as targets in the ongoing conflict.

By hitting oil refineries and pipeline stations deep inside Russian territory, Ukrainian forces are demonstrating their ability to escalate the conflict and disrupt enemy logistics. The distance of over 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine's border suggests a shift in tactical approaches, as Kyiv seeks to undermine both Russia's economy and its military supply chains.

The recent drone attacks on Russia's oil infrastructure coincide with a broader strategy targeting key facilities. Similar operations, such as the recent strike on a major strategic oil refinery and ammonia plant, highlight Ukraine's intention to disrupt essential resources that support military operations. This escalation not only emphasizes the tactical shift in Ukraine's approach but also raises concerns about the vulnerability of critical energy assets deep within Russian territory.
