Espionage Ring Uncovered in Ukraine
Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) military counterintelligence has detained an FSB informant operating in Dnipro, who was adjusting artillery and missile attacks across three regions. The suspect, employed as a rehabilitation coach for children with disabilities, secretly collected and transmitted coordinates of Ukrainian air defense systems. His tasks included identifying military assets and providing detailed terrain descriptions during trips in his personal vehicle.
This individual coordinated strikes in the Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Poltava regions, marking locations on Google Maps. He stored gathered intelligence on his smartphone for later submission to his FSB handler. SBU agents documented his espionage activities step by step before making the arrest. According to the SBU press office, security measures were implemented to protect Defense Force positions within the area of enemy reconnaissance operations.
Arrest and Legal Consequences
The man was recruited through a Telegram channel that promised easy money. During searches, authorities seized a laptop and mobile phone containing evidence of his crimes. The suspect received payments in cryptocurrency. SBU investigators have charged him under Article 111 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, which covers high treason committed under martial law. He remains in custody without the possibility of bail and faces life imprisonment with property confiscation.
This operation prevented a fresh wave of terrorist attacks in Kharkiv. Another FSB agent planning a series of bombings in the same city was also apprehended.
“He accumulated the collected data on his smartphone for subsequent reporting to his FSB handler. SBU officers uncovered the agent, documented his spy activities step by step, and detained him,” the Security Service of Ukraine stated.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by Russian intelligence services to destabilize regions where active hostilities are taking place. By neutralizing this FSB asset, the SBU not only eliminated the threat of further strikes but also underscored the critical role of counterintelligence during wartime.
