Ukraine's SBU Strikes Oil Plant 1,750 km Away, Setting New Drone Range Record

Українські спецслужби здійснили вражаючий удар по нафтопереробному заводу, який знаходиться на рекордній відстані.

SBU Successfully Strikes Distant Oil Refinery

In a long-range operation, Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has successfully targeted an oil refinery in Russia's Komi Republic, setting a new distance record for Ukrainian drone strikes. The attack on the Ukhta Oil Refinery, located 1,750 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, was part of a broader series of operations conducted by Ukrainian defense forces on the night of February 11, 2026. This demonstrates Ukraine's growing capability to project force deep into Russian territory.

Impact on the Oil Processing Complex

The strikes resulted in a significant fire and heavy smoke at the facility. Preliminary reports indicate damage to key installations, including:

  • An atmospheric-vacuum tubular unit;
  • A visbreaking unit.

These units are critical for the primary processing of crude oil, its separation into fractions, and the production of commercial fuel oil, gasoline, and diesel. The Ukhta refinery is part of the PJSC 'Lukoil' structure and processes approximately 4.2 million tons of oil annually.

The SBU stated that these strikes are aimed at enterprises within Russia's oil refining complex, which fuel the country's military operations. Damaging such facilities reduces the aggressor's ability to supply its troops, complicates logistics, and cuts into the financial revenues funding the war against Ukraine. These deep-strike capabilities are becoming a key component of Ukraine's defensive strategy.

This strike reflects the new capabilities of Ukrainian forces in waging war, particularly in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles to achieve strategic objectives.

Security Service of Ukraine

Successful attacks on critical enemy infrastructure can significantly degrade military capabilities, especially in logistics and resource supply, which is crucial in a protracted conflict. Such operations also signal to the international community Ukraine's resolve and capacity to actively defend its interests.
