SBU Operation Leads to Multiple Arrests
In a nationwide operation, Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has detained eight individuals suspected of collaborating with and conducting propaganda for the Russian Federation. Among those detained are a court secretary who allegedly justified the occupation of Crimea and Donbas, and a former agitator who worked in an election commission during the occupation. All suspects were formally notified of the charges against them on January 19, 2026.
Alleged Activities of the Detainees
Linguistic expert analysis has determined that the suspects' activities were part of a Russian information-subversion strategy against Ukraine. In Kherson, a 46-year-old man was detained for his work in 'Election Commission No. 809' during the occupation. In Zaporizhzhia, a former defense plant employee was arrested for allegedly calling for strikes on factory workshops. In the Zhytomyr region, an organizer of an underground cell was detained for urging people not to recognize Ukrainian laws.
- In the Vinnytsia region, a 57-year-old singer is suspected of promoting the 'partition' of Ukraine.
- In the Cherkasy region, a woman was detained for spreading posts in support of the Wagner terrorist organization.
The suspects face charges under Articles 109, 110, 111-1, and 436-2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. In a separate but related development, the SBU and the Office of the Prosecutor General uncovered a scheme involving the embezzlement of 60 million hryvnias in state funds. These operations highlight the dual challenges Ukraine faces from external aggression and internal corruption.

The arrests underscore the critical importance of national security and legal compliance during wartime. The ongoing conflict has made countering internal threats and propaganda a top priority for Ukrainian authorities.
