Ukraine Cracks Down on Pro-Kremlin Agitators
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has arrested eight individuals across the country for promoting Russian aggression and calling for attacks on Ukrainian soil. The suspects, all accused of acting as Kremlin agents, were detained in Kyiv, Sumy, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Chernihiv Oblast, Zhytomyr Oblast, and Odesa Oblast. These arrests are part of broader efforts to counter Russian influence operations during the ongoing war.
In Kyiv, security forces apprehended a security company cash collector who spread false claims about the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Telegram channels and urged the takeover of the country. He also photographed checkpoints and military recruitment mobile groups, tagging their locations and sharing the data via messenger apps. In Sumy, the administrator of a Telegram channel was charged after praising Russian fighters for shelling the city and calling on occupiers to strike Ukraine with a Sarmat nuclear missile.
In Dnipro, authorities uncovered a woman involved in an underground cell who called for a coup in Ukraine and denied Russia’s war crimes. She posted hostile content on her Facebook and TikTok accounts, which had a combined audience of nearly 8,000 users. Separately, a resident of Kryvyi Rih was detained for urging Russia to attack Kyiv with nuclear weapons in Telegram chat groups.
In Chernihiv Oblast, the SBU’s military counterintelligence and the State Bureau of Investigations exposed a mobilized soldier who denied Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine. He expressed support for the Kremlin regime and justified the occupiers’ war crimes. He was arrested in Poltava after fleeing his military unit following training at a center.
Additional Arrests and Consequences
In Zhytomyr Oblast, two unemployed individuals were uncovered. One justified Russian war crimes in Bucha, while the other called for increased strikes on Ukrainian Armed Forces positions using guided aerial bombs. In Odesa Oblast, an agitator was detained for urging Russians to seize the region and annex it to Russia. This individual participated in online broadcasts streamed on TikTok from Russian territory.
Additionally, the SBU and National Police prevented a terrorist attack in Kyiv by arresting two agents of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) who were preparing to blow up an administrative building in the city center. The suspects face up to 10 years in prison.
The detained individuals are accused under several articles of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, including:
- Part 2 of Article 109 (actions aimed at violently changing or overthrowing the constitutional order)
- Part 1 of Article 114-1 (obstruction of lawful activities of the Armed Forces during a special period)
- Part 1 of Article 161 (intentional acts aimed at inciting national hatred)
- Part 5 of Article 407 (unauthorized abandonment of a military unit)
- Article 436 (war propaganda)
- Article 436-2 (justifying Russian armed aggression against Ukraine)
The arrests of these pro-Kremlin agitators highlight the active efforts of Ukrainian law enforcement to combat disinformation and anti-state activities during the war. These events underscore the importance of controlling the information space and protecting Ukraine’s national security. The situation remains tense, and authorities continue to take measures to prevent any threats linked to Russian aggression.
