Slovak Club in Talks with Sergiy Rebrov
Slovak football side Slovan Bratislava has entered discussions with former Ukraine national team manager Sergiy Rebrov. Club president Ivan Kmotrík has confirmed these contacts. Rebrov, who led the Ukrainian national team from June 2023 to April 2026, is being considered for the head coach role not only at Slovan but also at Greek club Panathinaikos and UAE-based Al-Wahda.
Vladimír Weiss, Slovan's previous head coach, is set to take over the Slovak national team. This has prompted the club to actively search for a new manager, with candidates including:
- Robbie Keane
- Igor Bišćan
- Yaya Touré
As for Rebrov, he has held two meetings with Panathinaikos officials to discuss a potential three-year deal worth €2.2 million per season for his coaching staff.
Rebrov has set a deadline of the end of May to decide on his next move. Should he not sign with Panathinaikos, he may consider taking charge of Al-Wahda in the UAE. During his tenure with Ukraine, Rebrov oversaw 34 matches, securing 16 wins, 8 draws, and suffering 10 losses.
Slovak Context and Ukrainian Players
Slovan Bratislava currently features Ukrainian players Danylo Ihnatenko and Mykola Kukharevych on its roster. Reports of negotiations with Rebrov have been confirmed by sources, who state:
'A new contender for Sergiy Rebrov—and this is no joke. Our sources have provided sensational information that Slovan is seriously interested in the Ukrainian coach.'
The ongoing interest in Rebrov highlights the growing international profile of Ukrainian coaches. Beyond financial terms, key factors for the 50-year-old include the chance to pursue his coaching ambitions in competitive leagues. Meanwhile, the coaching change in Slovakia opens fresh opportunities for a team aiming to succeed both domestically and in European competitions.
The coaching landscape in European football is rapidly evolving, with Rebrov's potential deal with Panathinaikos adding another layer to Slovan Bratislava's search for a new head coach. As Slovan aims to strengthen its position in the league, the competition for Rebrov's services illustrates the increasing demand for skilled coaches from Ukraine, enhancing the strategic choices available for clubs in Slovakia and beyond.
