The Filming Reality Behind 'Tykha Nava'
The Ukrainian series 'Tykha Nava' has become one of the most talked-about television projects recently. Actor Serhii Kysil, who plays the town's mayor, has revealed the intense time pressures faced during its production, highlighting a broader issue in Ukraine's TV industry. Kysil's entire involvement in the project was completed in just 5 filming days.
Logistical Constraints and Production Pace
Kysil noted that filming took place in Kyiv, Irpin, and various locations across the Kyiv region. However, distant trips were limited due to additional costs, particularly for fuel. He pointed out that in Ukraine, an entire series can be shot in 10-15 days, unlike other productions where a single episode might take 10-15 shooting days. For instance, the scene depicting Kyra's assault by the character Fomenko was filmed in a mere 7 minutes.
The actor emphasized that the schedule often left no room for retakes.
"There were situations where you simply don't have time to do an additional take," Kysil stated. He also gave examples where all scenes in the mayor's office and all scenes in Kyra's apartment were shot in a single day.
"So when you're filming 18-22 scenes per day, everything happens almost on autopilot," the actor added.
Kysil's comments underscore the challenges Ukrainian actors face during production and raise questions about the quality of film output under such severe time constraints. This insight comes as the Ukrainian series market grows in popularity but operates with limited resources.
With Ukrainian series production grappling with financial and organizational hurdles, Kysil's remarks could serve as an important signal for producers and audiences alike. They highlight the need to reassess filming and content production approaches, which could impact overall production quality and viewer satisfaction. This also raises questions about support for Ukrainian cinema from the state and private investors, which is crucial for the industry's further development.
