Operation 'Crimea Power Switch Off'
During the first half of July, drone units struck 60 energy infrastructure nodes as part of the ongoing Operation 'Crimea Power Switch Off'. Of these, 51 were located in Crimea and the southern occupied territories, while the remaining 9 were hit in eastern Ukraine. The latest attacks targeted electrical substations including 'Berehove', 'Maynaky', 'Novoozerna', 'Saky', and 'Medvedieve', as well as the Saky thermal power plant.
Drones also struck power substations in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Key targets included:
- The 'Starobeshevo' training ground near Dokuchayevsk
- A special communications hub in the Kherson region
- A ceremony site for the Russian 1194th Motorized Rifle Regiment in Horlivka
These operations were carried out by units from the 414th Brigade 'Madar's Birds', the 20th Brigade 'K-2', the 427th Brigade 'Rarog', the 413th Regiment 'Raid', and the 1st Independent Center of the SSO. Commander Robert Brovdi, call sign 'Madar', stated:
'The worms won't escape a deep and total blackout.' Robert Brovdi
Brovdi added, 'We will stand. Moscow will fall. We will feed and rebuild Crimea.' These remarks underscore the resolve of Ukrainian forces to continue their strikes against Russian military and infrastructure assets in occupied territories.
The Growing Role of Drone Technology
Operation 'Crimea Power Switch Off' highlights Ukraine's intensified response to Russian aggression, particularly in occupied areas. Targeting energy hubs aims not only to degrade critical enemy infrastructure but also to weaken overall military capability. These developments also underscore the increasing importance of unmanned systems in modern warfare, providing Ukraine with new tactical advantages on the battlefield.
In addition to drone operations, Ukraine's security forces have recently targeted several Russian military installations, further illustrating the ongoing conflict's intensity. For instance, the attacks on military sites in Crimea and Donbas reflect a broader strategy to dismantle Russian capabilities in occupied regions, complementing the efforts seen in the 'Crimea Power Switch Off' operation.
