Kapustin Yar Test Site Targeted
In January 2026, Ukrainian Defense Forces conducted a series of successful strikes on the Kapustin Yar test site in Russia's Astrakhan region, as well as on other military targets within temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories and Russia itself. The strikes focused on a complex of hangar-type buildings at the site, which is used for the pre-launch preparation of medium-range intercontinental ballistic missiles. This facility is a key part of Russia's strategic weapons testing infrastructure.
The attacks were carried out using long-range Ukrainian-made weaponry, including the FP-5 'Flamingo' system. The strikes resulted in damage to several structures of varying severity, with one hangar sustaining significant destruction. In response to the attacks, a portion of the site's personnel were evacuated from the area.
Additional Military Targets Engaged
In a separate operation on the night of February 3rd, Ukrainian Defense units also launched strikes against a number of enemy military facilities. Notably, on temporarily occupied territory in the Zaporizhzhia region, near the settlement of Komysh-Zoria, a training center for enemy drone pilots and an FPV drone production facility were hit.
These coordinated strikes demonstrate an enhancement of Ukraine's military reach and a focus on degrading high-value strategic targets. Damaging critical military infrastructure like Kapustin Yar could impact Russia's operational capacity in the region, underscoring Ukraine's active response to the ongoing aggression. Such operations form part of a broader strategy to reduce the enemy's military potential and enhance security for Ukrainian-held areas.
