Ukrainian Forces Strike Three Russian Vessels in Novorossiysk and Target Oil Terminal in Makhachkala

Українські війська завдали удару по російським кораблям у Новоросійську та атакували нафтовий термінал у Махачкалі.

Ukrainian Military Operations

On September 9, Ukrainian defense units launched a precise strike on Russian military targets, successfully damaging at least three vessels stationed in Novorossiysk. The affected ships include:

  • the small sea minesweeper 'Zheleznyakov'
  • the frigate 'Admiral Essen'
  • the large landing ship of project 11711, 'Petro Morgunov'

Additionally, fuel storage facilities in Novorossiysk were hit during the operation. This information was confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine after a thorough analysis of supplementary data.

Attack on Makhachkala Port

In the early hours of September 10, an assault targeted the Makhachkala commercial sea port in Dagestan, causing a significant fire. The extent of the damage is still under assessment. This port plays a critical role in the logistics corridor connecting Russia and Iran across the Caspian Sea. Close to the port lies the base of Russia's Caspian Flotilla, and the route is used for transferring military supplies. From Iran to Russia, components and Shahed-type combat drones are transported, while from Russia to Iran, explosives, drone parts, and ammunition are shipped.

The strike specifically hit the port's oil infrastructure, where tankers with capacities up to 10,000 tons are received. Major General Madyar, Commander of the Special Operations Forces, noted that Russia’s naval missile carriers in Novorossiysk have been compromised.

“Operations against critical enemy military targets continue,” reported the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The attacks also resulted in the destruction of a Su-33 aircraft near Anapa. These events highlight the ongoing active efforts by Ukrainian forces to respond to Russian military threats.

These targeted strikes on Russian military facilities demonstrate Ukraine’s strategic approach to countering aggression. Disrupting vital maritime and logistical hubs could significantly degrade Russia’s operational capabilities. The blow to Makhachkala port, a key node in military supply chains, emphasizes the importance of controlling essential transportation routes in the region. These developments may also signal an escalation in the conflict and suggest increased cooperation between Ukrainian and international security partners.

The recent operations by Ukrainian forces underscore a strategic approach in targeting Russian military assets.
