Meteorologists forecast that these frigid conditions will persist until the end of January, indicating a prolonged period of intense cold. Such sustained winter freezes are a known feature of the region's continental climate, though the current intensity is notable.
On the night of January 17-18, temperatures are expected to plummet to -10…-16°C nationwide. In the north, readings could drop to -15…-22°C, while daytime highs will range from -9…-15°C. In the capital, Kyiv, nighttime temperatures will be -15…-18°C, with daytime highs of -10…-12°C. The Cherkasy region is experiencing average daily temperatures 9-13 degrees below the seasonal norm, a significant deviation. Minimum temperatures in some areas may reach -20°C, with snow surface temperatures as low as -23°C.

The coldest nights are predicted for January 18-19, when temperatures could fall to -25°C. Meteorologist Natalia Didenko noted that these conditions are characterized by dry air, light winds, and persistent frost.
