Contradictory Remarks from Margarita Simonyan

Russian propagandist Margarita Simonyan, who is herself battling cancer, has made a series of contradictory statements about singer Alla Pugacheva, focusing on her age and health. Simonyan noted that Pugacheva, now 77 years old, is 'no longer young' and argued that there is 'no point in chasing after her.' She went on to suggest that Pugacheva may be suffering from dementia and advised her family to limit her public comments.

Simonyan also made provocative remarks, labeling Pugacheva a 'bad omen.' According to her, 'wherever she goes, that's the end,' comparing the singer to a black mark. She wished for Pugacheva to 'boil in a cauldron,' insinuating that the singer's affairs are in a dire state.

Alla Pugacheva's Move Abroad

Following the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Alla Pugacheva and her family—including her twins Liza and Harry—relocated abroad. Together with her husband Maxim Galkin, who was already overseas at the time, they opposed Russian aggression. Russia's Ministry of Justice subsequently added Galkin to the register of foreign agents, sparking widespread media discussion.

In 2022, Pugacheva personally requested to be designated a foreign agent and gave an interview after the war began, expressing support for Ukraine. After leaving Russia, she traveled to Israel for medical treatment and returned to Moscow with her children just before the start of the school year.

Simonyan's comments about Pugacheva highlight the tense atmosphere in Russia's entertainment industry, where personal and political beliefs often collide. As one of the most iconic singers in Russia, Pugacheva has become a symbol of protest against aggression, drawing hostility from propagandists. Her support for Ukraine and criticism of the regime underscore the complex situation faced by many artists and public figures in Russia today.

Simonyan's recent comments come amid a backdrop of increasing tensions in Russia's entertainment sector, particularly regarding Pugacheva's controversial stance on the conflict in Ukraine. This situation is further complicated by the recent cancellation of a tribute concert for Pugacheva, reflecting the growing public pressure surrounding her political views and the implications for her legacy.
