Telephone conversation of Oleksandr Syrskyi with General Christopher Donahue

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi had a telephone conversation with the Commander of the U.S. Army Europe and Africa, General Christopher Donahue. During the conversation, the critical situation in Ukraine due to Russian shelling and the necessity to strengthen the air shield were discussed.

Situation on the frontline

The situation on the frontline remains complicated. In December 2025 and early January 2026, Ukraine experienced six massive rocket and drone strikes. The attack on the night of January 13 was particularly serious, when Russian troops attacked energy facilities with 25 rockets and 293 strike drones. Since the beginning of hostilities on February 24, 2022, the Russian Federation's army has launched over 13.3 thousand rockets and over 142.3 thousand strike drones.

Oleksandr Syrskyi emphasized that the primary need for Ukraine is to strengthen the air shield. He also noted that achieving a sustainable ceasefire in Ukraine is possible only under the condition of increased consolidated pressure on the enemy from Western partners. In conclusion, Syrskyi thanked General Christopher Donahue, the President, and the people of the United States for supporting Ukraine.

This conversation highlights the importance of international support for Ukraine amid rising military threats from Russia. Interaction with NATO and an emphasis on strengthening air defense indicate Ukraine's commitment to adapting its defense strategies to new challenges. Consolidated pressure on the aggressor from Western countries could be a key factor in achieving stability in the region.
