Member of Parliament from 'Servant of the People' Oleksandr Dubinsky in 2017, while working as a host on the 1+1 channel, wanted to obtain Romanian citizenship.
The future parliamentarian tried to organize everything through a company that was 'searching' for his Romanian roots.
Journalists obtained documents confirming that in December 2017 Oleksandr Dubinsky submitted an application for Romanian citizenship, reports the publication INKORR citing 'Investigation.Info'.
For this, the journalist provided copies of foreign and Ukrainian passports and a birth certificate. In response, the Romanian National Agency for Citizenship assigned him a personal number.
It is worth noting that obtaining Romanian citizenship is quite difficult – one must either live there for at least 8 years or be married to a Romanian citizen for 5 years. However, there is a shorter path that most foreigners use – proving that someone from your ancestors, back to great-grandparents, had Romanian citizenship.
Oleksandr Dubinsky followed this path as well. However, instead of searching for Romanian roots, he paid a private company from Chernivtsi to 'search' for such roots for him.
It is currently unknown whether the Member of Parliament completed the citizenship acquisition process. Oleksandr Dubinsky himself assured that he has not obtained Romanian citizenship.
Meanwhile, he ignored questions from 'Investigation.Info' about the submission of documents for Romanian citizenship. He only ended the conversation with emotional outbursts directed at the journalists. It should be noted that if Dubinsky indeed has 2 citizenships, he should automatically be stripped of his mandate.
